Abstract

In Hungary, the topics of destinations’ competitiveness as well as destination management have become the focus of tourism organisations and governmental decisions as well as scientific literature in the recent past, particularly because EU tenders tend to support the establishment of destination management organisation systems. To describe the actors and their role in the management of tourist destinations is thus quite relevant in respect of supporting the development of Hungarian destinations from a strategic point of view.

Apart of interpreting destinations and their clusters and characterising their actors, the tourist cluster-map is described from the perspective of a cluster-oriented view of the competitiveness of destinations. The results of a detailed qualitative case study are summarised with regard to the mapping and differentiating of the groups of actors and their roles.
